Wallet Passes built for Beauty Salon

Challenge

The salon chain had a loyal guest list, but too many appointments were missed or cancelled at the last minute. Empty chairs in the afternoon were hard to fill, and guests rarely booked their next visit before leaving. SMS reminders were expensive, and the team had no simple way to offer a last-minute slot to someone nearby.

Strategy

Every guest received a Wallet Pass after the first visit. The next appointment date and time were shown on the pass itself. Push notifications replaced paid SMS: a reminder the day before, a same-morning nudge, and a short list of open slots when a cancellation appeared. Birthday bonuses and a rebooking offer after each visit kept the calendar full without extra staff time.

Implementation

Issuing salon cards

QR codes were placed at the reception desk and in the confirmation email. Guests verified their phone number, chose a preferred location, and installed a Wallet Pass branded for the salon. The next visit and the current bonus were written onto the pass from the booking system.

Appointment reminders

A push notification was sent 24 hours before the visit and again on the morning of the appointment. If a guest cancelled, a nearby segment received an offer for the freed slot within minutes.

Rebooking and birthdays

After each completed visit, the pass offered a bonus for booking the next treatment within 14 days. On a guest’s birthday week, a personal push unlocked a small extra service. Both offers lived on the back of the Wallet Pass, so the team did not need a separate coupon booklet.

Results

Over 5 months, the salon chain recorded:

  • Fewer empty chairs. No-shows dropped by 41% after reminder pushes replaced most SMS traffic.
  • Faster rebooking. 28% more guests booked the next visit before leaving the salon.
  • Birthday revenue. The birthday offer converted at 19%, with almost no extra staff effort.

Conclusion

Wallet Passes gave the salon a channel that guests already carry. Reminders, last-minute fills, and birthday offers now run from one pass instead of scattered SMS, paper cards, and Instagram stories. The team kept using the same booking calendar and only synced it with Passquare.
