Wallet Passes built for Taquería

Challenge

Paper stamp cards were wet, lost, or photocopied. Lunch was packed; 16:00–18:00 was quiet. The chain could not tell who was close to a free taco.

Strategy

Stamp cards moved to Wallet Passes: nine tacos, the tenth free. A geo reminder fired when a cardholder passed a quieter branch after 16:00. Salsa-of-the-week lived on the back of the pass.

Implementation

Digital stamps

The till added a stamp through the POS. The tenth stamp unlocked the free taco on the pass automatically.

Counter QR

New guests scanned once. Returning guests showed the QR on the pass. No plastic, no punch.

Afternoon geo

Opted-in guests near a branch after 16:00 received one short push. Two geo messages a week was the cap.

Results

In 5 months across 11 locations:

  • Paper retired. 74% of active stamp cards moved to Wallet Passes.
  • Repeat visits. Guests with a pass came back 27% more often.
  • Afternoon geo. 16% of nearby pushes were redeemed the same day.

Conclusion

A taco stamp only works if it is on the phone the guest already unlocks. Wallet Passes kept the tenth-taco mechanic and added location, without a custom app.
